Once the child has been introduced to the different phonemes of letters in an individual manner and he has been shown how to combine consonant sounds with vowels, it is time to show the child the correspondence of these sounds with written words representing real objects. In the case of a Montessori environment, physical objects and the mobile alphabet would be introduced.
